Adoption in China

A 2004 Trip to Jingdezhen

In June 2004, the Thompson family took their then nine year old daughter, Emma Li, back to China for a visit to Beijing and a three day visit to Jingdezhen.  They stayed one night at the Joint Venture Hotel, but moved to the Jinye Hotel, which was closer to downtown and the SWI. The neighborhood road to the SWI is a dirt road, and they were told it was under construction.

The Thompsons first met the SWI staff in a conference room, and were able to see the room where the babies stay.  They saw four babies while visiting the orphanage. These were children who were awaiting adoption, as some of them return to the SWI for 1-3 weeks in preparation for adoption.   They also saw several older children, some of whom are usually brought on excursions.
