Chongren Orphanage
Chongren is south of Nanchang, probably about 110 km. I
have heard from three families adopting from this orphanage, two in July 1999
and the other a few months later. So far we don't know much about Chongren
or the orphanage there but hope to gradually gather some more information.
From one of the moms adopting July 1999: "Our daughter is a very
happy baby. We think she was very well taken care of. There were four families
in our group who adopted from the Chongren Orphanage - 2 babies and 2 toddlers.
The parents of one of the toddlers wasn't sure how well she was taken care of (a
lot of marks on her legs), but they say that she has adjusted beautifully at
this point. The other toddler was in a foster home and was very well cared for -
she impressed everyone with her incredible use of chopsticks (at age 2+) - she
would even feed her new daddy. The other baby was also in great shape - she
seemed very intelligent. On our questionairre the orphanage people wrote that our
daughter slept with a foster family, but we never confirmed this. It's possible
she spent the day at the orphanage and went to the foster family for the night.
The strange thing is that we could never get our daughter (8 mo) to use a bottle
- we tried different nipples and bottles and formula. The caretaker showed
us which bottle she would like, but our daughter refused. Anyway, she now
drinks from a sippy cup and can even use a straw. We are thrilled with her
- she is so much fun and extremely cute! (LP)
