in a group of 10 families and 5 of us received children from Shangrao. My
daughter was already at the hotel (Lakeview - It had just opened) when we
arrived. She was 6 months old and weighed 15 pounds she was the largest baby in
the group, There were only 2 babies older then her one was 9 months and the
other 7 months. She was very healthy and alert. The only thing I found out about
her was that she was in foster care with one of the workers at the orphanage and
would be at the orphanage all day and go home at night. Her name in China was
Rao Mao Mao which I found out is what a family will call the youngest child in
the family. So far I only know of five families adopting from here prior to 1997. Two were in 1994 (September and December) and the others were in the fall of 1996. None of these families were able to visit the orphanage or city. Since 1997 several families have adopted from this orphanage and an adopting dad visited in 2000 (see link below). A mom that had adopted in 1994 was also able to visit in 2000 while traveling to Jiangxi as an escort for some adopting families.
