On the map
that I have,
Zhangshuzhen is in parenthesis next to the name
Qingjiang and I believe this is the
city that is being referred to as Zhangshu
for these adoptions.
A group
adopting in May 1996 had two babies that were adopted through
the Yichun orphanage or county but
were told their babies were from Zhang (and they also had the
surname of Zhang). On further questioning one of the adoptive
dads feels this was most likely the city of
Zhangshu.
It may have been that Zhangshu
wasnt doing international adoptions on their own at that point
and they were processed through Yichun.
Their daughter was developmentally behind for her age but has
since caught up and is doing well. (PL)
A group
received their babies from this orphanage in August 1996. They
were brought to the families at their hotel in
Nanchang.
Zhangshu is a small town known
throughout China as a center for traditional medicine. It's on
the railroad line between
Nanchang
and Yichun. From one mom about her
daughter: "She is terrific, healthy, happy, only cries when she
is hungry....an eight month old bundle of smiles." Initially
this family was told they would travel to
Yichun to process the adoption. Interestingly, this girl
had the surname of Yuan, which is given to many of the
Yichun children, and then one of her
given names was Zhang, which is the name given to the
Zhangshu children (usually as a
surname. This, along with the above experience, supports
a collaboration between these two
orphanages. (FS)
A family (JH)
traveled in February 2005 to adopt their daughter from
Zhangshu and she is doing well.
They said The orphanage seemed to put a lot of pride in their
children because all of our babies came in fancy traditional
Chinese outfits to keep as a gift. Most recently referrals
from this orphanage have been received in March 2005 (JC)
and April 2005 (S).
